What to Expect at HCBC

HCBC is a church made up of ordinary people, who come together to worship an extrordinary God.  We join together in church to simply live life together.  We bear each other's burdens, pray for one another, and support each other.

We understand how intimidating it can be to walk into a church for the first time.  We want to help you feel as welcome as possible.  In order to help you feel more comfortable, we'd like to help you know what to expect.

Worship Services: A weekly worship service consists primarily of two elements: worship through song and worship through the Word.

a. Songs: We enjoy praising God through various genres of music.  Most Sundays, we will sing both contemporary choruses and hymns, as well as traditional hymns.  The goal of the song service is to encourage congregational singing.  In order to accomplish this, the music is led by the worship choir as well as a small orchestra. Many weeks, there will be some sort of testimony in song, usually by the choir as they seek to encourage the congregation through music.

b. Word: The preaching of God's Word (the Bible) is central to our worship, which is why the sermon most often takes place in the very middle of the worship service. During each sermon you will hear the Bible explained in a way that will give you a better understanding of the text, as well as help you apply it to your life.  In every service, no matter the passage being preached, you will hear the gospel proclaimed, for it is the only message of hope.

What should I wear?
Every Sunday you will see people dressed in traditional Sunday morning clothes (suit and tie), and others in something a little more comfortable.  We do not place an emphasis on what people wear.  Just as God looks at the heart of people, we strive to minister to the heart, and not judge anyone based on their clothing.

What time should I arrive?
Many times there will be a song that is sung just before the service starts, as people find their seats.  We would recommend that you arrive by 10:45 for the service so that you do not feel rushed as you find your way to the sanctuary and to your seats. The service officially begins at 11:00 AM.

Where should I park?
Visitors are encouraged to park next to the building in the main parking, which can be accessed from Main St.  There are a few spots that are reserved just for guests.  In the event that the lot is full, you can find additional parking spaces in our secondary lot, which can be accessed from Edwards St.

What about my kids?
We love families, including small children, at HCBC.  In order to minister to the entire family, we have something for children of all ages during the Sunday School hour, as well as nursery and children's church for children up to 5 years old during the service hour.  Of course, if you would prefer to have your child sit in the service with you, we welcome them there also. Find out more about our preschool ministry here.

Will I be expected to give an offering?
Although you are free to give as you feel led, we do not expect our guests to give a financial offering.
