What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is the very word of God and that it is complete and without error.  Everything we believe is grounded and rooted in the truths of Scripture.

God- There is only one living and true God.  He is a personal Being, the Creator and Ruler of the universe.  He is eternal, all powerful and all knowing.  We owe him the highest love, reverence, and obedience.  God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus-  Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.  He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the vigin Mary.  He lived a perfect life, obeying the will of his Father.  He died on the cross, bearing the sins of all mankind, rose victoriously from the dead, and then ascended into heaven, assuming his role on the throne.  He serves as the one mediator between man and God the Father.  One day, he will return to earth to judge the world and to complete his redemptive mission.

Holy Spirit- The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine.  He inspired men of old to write the Bible.  He works in all mankind as he convicts, counsels, teaches, and comforts.  He is constantly at work in every Christian to cultivate their character into the image of Christ.

Mankind- Man is the special creation of God, made in His image, created male and female. Man was created perfectly, but through sin, man is separated from God.  Man's purpose is to glorify God and to serve Him.  Man is born sinful, but through the redemptive work of Jesus on the cross, all who believe in Him are relieved from the penalty of their sin.

Salvation- Salvation involves the redemtion of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.  Scripture teaches that every true believer will endure till death and is sealed with the Holy Spirit.  This is called the security of the believer.  Every believer is saved by grace, through faith, and that can never be removed.

Church- A New Testamant church consists of baptized believers joined by faith and fellowship of the gospel.  The church observes the two ordinances of baptism and communion.  The church is also responsible for carrying the message of the gospel to the ends of the earth.  Each individual congregation operates under the Lordship of Christ through democratic processes.  Each member therefore is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord.

As a Southern Baptist Church, we affirm the Baptist Faith and Message (2000 ed.)  To find out more of the specifics of what we believe, we encourage you to take a look at the Baptist Faith and Message.  You can download a PDF by clicking here.
